I'm just finishing my data copy to my unraid server and i thought it was the right time to post my specs and initial findings.
Specs:
The build i was going for was a 12 drive server
CASE: Coolermaster centurion 590
MOBO+CPU: ASUS P5NE + intel core duo (Mobo holds 4 sata ports)
IDE CARDS: 2x Promise SATA-300 TX4
BAYS: 4x Sharkoon SATA Quickport Inter 3-bay
PSU: XFX 600W
DRIVES: 2x WD 2TB drives + 4 Samsung 2TB to be recovered from my synology
USB: sandisk micro cruzer 4GB
I had the mobo, cpu, ram and PSU already lying around begging to be used so the total cost for all the extra parts came around 500 euro.
Initial findings:
The case is superb as it is also one of the recommended case from unRaid. it has 9 external bays which where ideal for the 8 bays i needed to build in the sharkoon drives. so the build itself was done quit easly and only took a few hours. The problem i encountered was that i didn't had enough molex connectors for the sharkoon bays so i bought a few sata-molex convertors to connect them all.
I needed to format my USB stick with the HP tool (as found on the unraid website) to make my mobo to boot from it.
After i could boot all went smoothly and i started the copy. The copy is almost complete and i'll be adding my samsung disks to that i can pre_clear these and get one to be used as the parity drive. (It is best that u start your copy without a parity drive and add it later)
I'll keep this post up to date with all my other findings and problems (hopefully none :D )
